This Privacy Policy explains how Language Roots (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Plains Cree language-learning app. We are committed to respecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name and email address when you create an account. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash (bcrypt) — we never store or see your actual password.
- Learning data: your lesson progress, XP, streaks, level, and time spent in the app, used to power your learning experience.
- Sign-in identifiers: if you sign in with Google or Apple, we store the identifier they provide so you can log back in.
- Voice recordings: when you use pronunciation practice, your short audio recording is sent to our speech provider to check your pronunciation. It is used only to return a result and is not stored by us for other purposes.
- Basic usage records: login dates, used to show activity summaries to administrators.
How we use your information
- To provide and maintain your account and learning progress.
- To personalize your lessons, streaks, and achievements.
- To provide pronunciation feedback and audio playback of Cree words.
- To send you account-related emails, such as password resets and account-deletion confirmations.
Third-party services
We use trusted third-party providers to deliver certain features:
- Speech recognition & text-to-speech (OpenAI) to check pronunciation and read words aloud.
- Email delivery to send transactional emails (password reset, deletion confirmation).
- Google / Apple Sign-In if you choose those login options.
These providers process data only as needed to perform their service.
Data storage & security
Your data is stored in a secured database. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text, and all traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
Your rights & account deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time — from within the app, or on our public deletion page:
Once deleted, your account, progress, streak, XP, and login history are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
Children’s privacy
The app is intended for general audiences learning Plains Cree. We do not knowingly collect more personal information than is needed to provide the learning experience.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
